After an impressive debut at the Perth round of the Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars in January, Andrew Katavatis and the Beach Bomb team have decided to make the long trek across the Nullarbor to take on 13 other Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars at Sydney Dragway on November 26.
The team’s success in the nitro category is not a surprise, with the crew having previously competed successfully in both the Modified and Super Comp categories, ultimately resulting in State Championships.
The Katavatis team made the step up to Outlaw Nitro Funny car last year and have impressed everyone from the get go with their instant professionalism, performance and outstanding presentation of the “Beach Bomb” Camaro.
“We have been testing the car with lots of new gear for the upcoming season, including updated cylinder heads and fuel pump. Early numbers so far have shown big gains in the middle of the track where we have been lacking some power,” beamed an excited Katavatis.
Having never raced at Sydney Dragway before, Katavatis will make some test runs at the track on the Thursday before the event.
When asked about adapting the new set up to Sydney Dragway, Katavatis was quick to back the brains trust in his team, “Our crew chiefs Michael Marriott and James Rowland both have many runs and experience at Sydney Dragway and are looking forward to the task ahead of them.”
“The challenge of putting this Perth-based hot-rod down the track is one we are all looking forward to. Our entire crew is instrumental in out trip east and we know that we have the best-prepared car that we can possibly put together to win races and put on a show for the fans. It’s something we have been building for and to take our car to the biggest event of the year is super-exciting.”
The “Beach Bomb’ team will be keeping every one up to date via their Facebook page, The Beach Bomb Outlaw Nitro Funny Car, so keep up to date with their adventure over, testing in Sydney and the big race on Saturday the 26th.
